Join us for our new Monarch Book Club for children grades Kindergarten - 2nd. Each month we will read a different Monarch Award nominated from the 2024 list. We will read this month's picture book all together at the start of the program. We will then answer questions and discuss the book as a group. We will then have a craft and/or activity to do that goes along with the theme of the story we read together. We will have time for a snack as well.
Registration is required.
Limit: 15 children
Ages: Kindergarten - 2nd grade.

Ship in a Bottle by Andrew Prahin
A valiant mouse sets sail in her ship in a bottle to seek a better life in this gentle allegory about refugees and immigration.
All Mouse wants to do is eat gingersnaps, lie in the sun, and enjoy her ship in a bottle. All Cat wants to do is eat Mouse. This is a problem.
So one day, Mouse sets off in her ship in a bottle in search of a new home. But the great big world is a scary place for one small mouse. As she sails downriver, she faces grabby seagulls, selfish rabbits, and stormy waters before finally finding refuge in a park on the shores of an enormous city, where she is welcomed by friends of all shapes and sizes. Readers will cheer Mouse's quiet perseverance on her epic journey as she seeks a tiny spot to call her own.

Please arrive on time for the program. If you are unable to attend the program, please cancel at least 2 hours before the program begins, by emailing youthservices@mokena.lib.il.us or calling the Mokena Library at 708-479-9663 and canceling with a librarian. You can also cancel through your confirmation email. After 3 times of being marked absent without cancellation notice, we will be moving future registrations to the waitlist for two weeks. This is to accommodate as many patrons as possible due to limited space and popularity of our programs.
