Program Description

Event Details

Sensory-Friendly Session is designed for children who benefit from a calmer, more flexible library experience including those with autism spectrum disorder, sensory processing differences, or developmental disabilities. We will have reduced crowds, lower sound levels, and accessibility accommodations.

Hippity hop on over to the Mokena Library to join in some egg-citing fun! We will be hosting our second-annual Glow in the Dark Egg Hunt! There will be neon colored eggs with mini glowsticks inside, hidden all throughout the Children's Library downstairs. The lights will be off and the eggs will be glowing! Each child registered will receive ONE bunny bag to collect their eggs in.

The Sensory-Friendly Egg Hunt Session will be from 5:45pm - 6:00pm. Staff will be begin hiding the eggs for the next session from 6:00pm - 6:30pm.

The Children's Library will be closed from 5:30 - 8:00pm to allow for staff to set up and clean up. Each session, there will be eggs hidden throughout the Children's Library. Each child is tasked with the challenge of finding five glowing eggs in their assigned color. Once you've found all 5 eggs of your color, you can bring them up to the Children's desk for an egg-stra special prize, plus you get to keep the eggs. Limit one prize per child. We ask that in order for all children to have fun and participate in the egg hunt, that you do not collect more than your 5 assigned color eggs. We appreciate everyone being respectful.

Registration is required.

Limit: 6 children, additional sensory-friendly sessions may be added if demand requires.

Ages: 0-11 years old.

Please register each child's name only.

Attendance Policy for Children's Programs

We highly recommend registering with an email address. This is the only way you will get a confirmation email, be able to cancel and receive any updates, including cancellation of the program. Please arrive on time for the program. If you are unable to attend the program, please cancel at least 2 hours before the program begins, by emailing youthservices@mokenalibrary.org or calling the Mokena Library at 708-479-9663 and canceling with a librarian. You can also cancel through your confirmation email. After 3 times of being marked absent without cancellation notice, we will be moving future registrations to the waitlist for two weeks. This is to accommodate as many patrons as possible due to limited space and popularity of our programs.

Mokena Community Public Library District Card Holder - Priority Registration

Priority registration is available exclusively to Mokena library cardholders ensuring that Mokena library cardholders receive the first opportunity to explore and participate in our limited room programs. This is a new procedure for our high demand programs. Non-Mokena Community Public Library District Holders will be placed on a pending wait list until 72 hours prior to the program. If there are openings at that time the wait list will be transferred to the registered list in the order they were added to the wait list.
