Program Description
Event Details
Join us as we welcome the new therapy dog coming to visit the Children’s Department at the Mokena Library. Brinkley is an English Shepherd dog. She is very sweet & friendly, and excited to meet you!
During this program, this is a great opportunity to practice your reading skills. “Reading aloud helps students learn how to use language to make sense of the world; it improves their information processing skills, vocabulary, and comprehension. Reading aloud targets the skills of audio learners.” (Center for Teaching)
You can sign up for a ten minute slot to read to Brinkley. Please have a Children’s book ready to go before your time to read. The program is located in our Program Room. It will be you, Brinkley and Ms. Anne.
Ages: 1st grade - 8th grade
Registration is required.
To register, please call 708-479-9663 or visit the Children's Customer Service Desk.
Online registration is not available due to the multiple time slots. When you call or visit the library, a staff member will be able to assign each child their own individual ten minute time slot, while availability lasts.

Attendance Policy for Children's Programs
We highly recommend registering with an email address. This is the only way you will get a confirmation email, be able to cancel and receive any updates, including cancellation of the program. Please arrive on time for the program. If you are unable to attend the program, please cancel at least 2 hours before the program begins, by emailing youthservices@mokena.lib.il.us or calling the Mokena Library at 708-479-9663 and canceling with a librarian. You can also cancel through your confirmation email. After 3 times of being marked absent without cancellation notice, we will be moving future registrations to the waitlist for two weeks. This is to accommodate as many patrons as possible due to limited space and popularity of our programs.
