For Grades 6 - 12: Limit 12
PARTICIPANTS MUST KNOW HOW TO PLAY THE POKEMON TRADING CARD GAME & MUST HAVE TOURNAMENT LEGAL DECKS THAT ARE SLEEVED. We will be playing within the rules of the Expanded Format. Expanded Format is explained below. Registrants that do not comply with these rules will be barred from the next tournament.
The Player versus Player Tournament will run for 4 hours (5:00pm - 9:00pm). There will be Dominos pizza and snacks for participants to enjoy. The tournament will begin at 5:30pm, however, we ask for everyone to arrive by 5:00pm to eat, have their decks inspected by judges, and for participants to prepare. Here, participants will play 3 separate rounds in one match that will consist of a set of three games. Each round will have an 1 hour time limit with a 10 minute break after for match-related resolutions, having a snack, bathroom breaks, and for readying-up for the next match.
The Point Leader or Point Leaders will earn an Amazon Gift Certificate from a $100 prize pool at the end of the tournament. Participants’ points will be totaled to determine the Point Leader(s) and the prize pool will be distributed evenly to each Point Leader at the end of the tournament. The Amazon Gift Certificate will be emailed to the Point Leader(s) on Monday, March 2nd.
Rules for the PvP Tournament style of play will be taught at the Pokémon B.L.T. (Battle | Learn | Trade) program which is every Friday, barring days the library is closed. Participants may ask for the official Pokémon TCG rulebook to be printed out for them at no cost.
- Expanded Format: The Pokémon TCG Expanded Format is a competitive format allowing cards from the Black & White era (2011) onward, featuring a massive card pool, powerful item searches (like Ultra Ball, Ace Specs), and a banned list to keep overpowered combinations in check, creating a diverse, high-stakes metagame distinct from the rotating Standard format. Please click on the link to learn about which cards are banned in this format: Expanded Format Banned Cards List.
