Calling all Jr. High readers! Our book club will dive into a variety of exciting reads, from timeless classics to the latest modern releases. We’ll explore different genres, including poetry and even some Shakespeare... maybe. Whether you’re a seasoned reader or just starting out, there’s something for everyone. Come share your thoughts, make new friends, and discover the joy of reading together.
Beginning on Friday, January 31st, registrants can come to the library to pick up their copy of They Called Us Enemy by George Takei. The book discussion will be on Thursday, February 27th at 3:30pm. Readers that participated in the Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children book discussion will receive priority registration and will receive a copy of They Called Us Enemy by George Takei at the book discussion program.
They Called Us Enemy tells the story of George Takei's childhood in American internment camps during World War II. The book is told from a child's perspective and details the experiences of Takei and his family as they are forced from their home in Los Angeles and sent to Camp Rohwer in Arkansas. Takei's memories of the time include the joys and terrors of growing up under legalized racism, his mother's difficult choices, and his father's faith in democracy.
