The Hobbit is a fantasy novel by J.R.R. Tolkien that was first published in 1937. It tells the story of Bilbo Baggins, a Hobbit who is persuaded by the wizard Gandalf to join a group of dwarves on a quest to reclaim their home, the Lonely Mountain, from the dragon Smaug. The journey takes Bilbo through dangerous lands filled with trolls, goblins, and other perils, where he eventually comes into possession of a mysterious ring.
