Start 2026 artistically with our "Colorful Notions" Painting Contest!

We invite you to explore the transformative nature of a new year and to push your creative boundaries!

The theme for the contest, "Colorful Notions," presents artists with the challenge to express the concept of renewal, new beginnings, hope, change, and the excitement of new possibilities. Each kit includes a mini-canvas, two paint brushes, and a basic set of acrylic paints.

  • Registration runs from December 15-30 (Registration is required)
  • Kit pickup runs from January 2-15
  • Paintings must be entered/returned no later than January 20 at 8:30 pm
  • When entering your painting you will be asked to fill out an entry form

Contest Details:

Paintings will be publicly displayed between January 20-January 31. Paintings will be judged by a panel of judges. There will be three (3) winning entries (First, Second, and Third Place) with a prize for each. The winning paintings will be scanned by library staff and displayed in the Makers Space. Artists can pick up their original paintings beginning February 2, 2026.

Mokena Community Public Library District Card Holder - Priority Registration

Priority registration is available exclusively to Mokena library cardholders ensuring that Mokena library cardholders receive the first opportunity to explore and participate in our limited room programs. This is a new procedure for our high demand programs. Non-Mokena Community Public Library District Holders will be placed on a pending wait list until 72 hours prior to the program. If there are openings at that time the wait list will be transferred to the registered list in the order they were added to the wait list.

Program Attendance Policy

Please arrive on time for the program. Space is limited so registration is suggested for all programs, regular or limited, unless otherwise noted. Go to our website, call the library at 708-479-9663 or visit the Customer Service Desk to register. If you are registered for a program that you cannot attend, please call at least 24 hours in advance to cancel. You may cancel through your confirmation email, email the     library at programs@mokenalibrary.org or call 708-479-9663. Given the popularity of our limited programs, patrons, who do not cancel their registration 24 hours prior to the event will be considered “No Shows”. If a patron is considered a “No Show” for three limited programs then he, she, or they may be unable to register for future events and will instead be placed on the waitlist.

A limited program is a program that has limited space or limited supplies available.
