Chess, as we know it today, was born out of the Indian game chaturanga before the 600s AD. The game spread throughout Asia and Europe over the coming centuries, and eventually evolved into what we know as chess around the 16th century.
In today's age, chess is played for strategy and spatial recognition. It's a system of training ourselves to appreciate cause and consequence, to improve our decision making. The best players train against computers, knowing they can't win, but they can learn.
On March 15th, you guys will get together to play chess not to learn but to beat up on each other until we have a 1st and 2nd place winner. They will get to pick from 2 prizes. A 3rd prize will be raffled off to everyone else who didn't place 1st or 2nd.
We'll have snacks and soft drinks for everyone who participates.
