Program Description

Event Details

Transform everyday materials into personalized journals. Join us for a hands-on workshop where you’ll learn to create and embellish a junk journal from scratch. In this beginner-friendly session, you’ll start by using the traditional pamphlet stitch to assemble a simple journal, and embellish it with provided material from your kit. This workshop will inspire you to craft a one-of-a-kind journal that’s uniquely yours!

Each patron will receive instructions and a unique kit consisting of any combination of new and vintage book pages (illustrated, French, poetry, math, science, maps, dictionary), music sheets, wallpaper, hand dyed paper, scrapbook paper, pieces of fabric, segments of crocheted doilies, embroidered linens, ribbon and lace, sari silk ribbon, envelopes, postcards, printed images, washi tape, and other ephemera. Each kit also includes a needle and waxed thread needed for bookbinding, and a glue stick. The presenter also provides for use during class: one bone folder, one awl tool, and one fabric glue per every 2 participants.

Mokena Community Public Library District Card Holder - Priority Registration

Priority registration is available exclusively to Mokena library cardholders ensuring that Mokena library cardholders receive the first opportunity to explore and participate in our limited room programs. This is a new procedure for our high demand programs. Non-Mokena Community Public Library District Holders will be placed on a pending wait list until 72 hours prior to the program. If there are openings at that time the wait list will be transferred to the registered list in the order they were added to the wait list.

Program Attendance Policy

Please arrive on time for the program. If you are unable to attend the program, please cancel at least 24 hours before the program begins, by emailing programs@mokenalibrary.org or calling the Mokena Library at 708-479-9663 and canceling with a librarian. You can also cancel through our Events calendar. After 3 times of being marked absent without cancellation, we will be moving future registrations to the waitlist. This is to accommodate as many patrons as possible due to limited space and popularity of our programs.
