Program Description

Event Details

Journey with us through the past 110 years of American history--from the start of World War I in 1914 thru present day--in this fast-paced, picture-packed live presentation of news, movies, music, and pop culture that highlights the ebb and flow of the United States on the move. “American History and Today”” features 400 historically rich photographs punctuated by 36 news and film clips that recall some of most memorable moments of the past century. This fact-based, non-partisan presentation is divided into two 90-minute chapters, with audience participation during a Q&A after each session.

“American History and Today” is presented by John LeGear, a graduate of the School of
Journalism at Southern Illinois University (1978) and director of communications for
national not-for-profit organizations during most of his 40-year career. Now semi-retired,
LeGear has been serving as Lay Historian for American history and for the movie
industry since 2017 and makes about 100 history presentations per year.
